Framing Paintings

Hardboard and canvas board/panels are thin, firm boards and require framing.
When a frame is added, the very edges of the painting are covered beneath the edges of the frame.
If your painting does not include a frame, consider hiring a local framer (such as Masterpeace Framing in FSJ) or visit Canada on Canvas to order a custom frame.

Framing a wrapped canvas is optional. The sides of a wrapped canvas painting will be finished with black paint or the painting will wrap around the corners. It is normal to hung wrapped canvas paintings without a frame.
If your painting says it comes with a floating (or float/floater) frame, it will look like one of the frames below.
With this type of frame, the front of the canvas is not covered at all and there is a gap between the canvas and the frame, which makes the canvas appear to be 'floating', hence the term.
