Commissioning a Painting
Commissions are accepted on a case by case basis and largely depend on the desired subject matter and timeline. If you are interested in having a commissioned painting completed for you, consider the following:
do you have good reference photos of your desired subject matter?
does the artist already paint subject matter similar to what you are interested in?
do you know what size you would like?
do you have a timeline for when would you like the commission done by?
are you open to artist interpretation of the photo references?
Price
Paintings are priced according to size. Contact for current pricing.
Payment & Process
The artist and client come to an agreement about the commissioned painting including subject matter, size, medium, price, timeline, etc.
A nonrefundable 50% down payment will be requested via e-transfer. Once received, the painting will commence.
When the painting is approximately halfway completed, progress photos will be sent to the client for approval and feedback. At this time, if the client is unsatisfied, they may reject the painting, the commission will end, and the artist will retain the deposit. If the client approves, the commission will continue.
When the painting is nearing completion, the artist will send progress photos for any last-minute tweaks.
When the painting is completed, another photo will be sent for final approval. Once approved, the painting will be set aside to dry.
When the painting is ready to be shipped/delivered, the client will pay the remaining balance and any shipping charges that apply via e-transfer
The painting will be shipped/delivered!
The Finished Painting
Unless otherwise discussed, all commissions will be painted in oil on 1.5" wrapped canvas and will be ready to hang upon completion. This includes black painted sides, signature on front, and hanging wire attached with D hooks. Depending on the thickness of the paint and drying time, oil paintings may or may not be varnished prior to shipping.
Copyright of Commissioned Paintings
All original paintings are protected under the Copyright Act. The artist retains all copyright, which prevents others from reproducing their work or copying any substantial portion of their work. Owning the copyright for a work means the artist has the exclusive right to commercially benefit from its use. Those who want to use, or make copies of, an artist's work will have to get written permission from the artist.
Returns
Commissioned paintings are not eligible for return.
